The BRP – Ang Pangulo hosted 38 residents of Co Su Gian – Home for the Aged, Cabantian, Davao City last February 15, 2020. The visit was initiated by Mayor Sara Z. Duterte in order to give the residents the opportunity to see the BRP – Ang Pangulo. Assisting the elderlies were Marilou B. LoreƱa, Division Chief of Social Services & Operations, Elena G. Gabaton of PSCCD, Nenita Lim, Officer-in-charge of Co Su Gian – Home for the Aged, and her staff.

Co Su Gian – Home for the Aged is a city government-owned facility managed by the City Social Welfare and Development Office. It provides residential care to abandoned elderlies in the city. It also serves as a holding facility for elders who are lost and waiting for reunification and reintegration with their families.

During the visit, Commanding Officer Marissa A. Martinez toured the guests to the Office of the President, President Duterte’s and the First Families’ Bedrooms then to the dining area where fresh fruits and Filipino delicacies were served. Cdr Emerson T. Namuca, PN and LCdr Michael Brandon Paculba, PN together with other officers of the Philippine Navy also assisted the elderlies during the tour. According to Commander Martinez, the BRP – Ang Pangulo is a floating museum because it showcases memorabilia of the ship.

The residents of Co Su Gian – Home for the Aged expressed their gratitude to President Rodrigo R. Duterte and Mayor Sara Z. Duterte for opening the door of BRP – Ang Pangulo for them to explore and for treating them as special guests.

In the previous administration, only the First Family and High Ranking officials were allowed to enter the ship. In the present administration of President Rodrigo R. Duterte, BRP – Ang Pangulo, is open to public visits.(Elena G. Gabaton, ECCD Technical Staff)
