First of all, let me acknowledge the presence of Dr. Maria Therese Bañes, President of Philippine Pediatric Society – Davao Southern Mindanao Chapter, Dr. Ruchiebelle Baundiag, Chairperson on Child Advocacy Committee, PPS-DSMC Organizing Committee, Department of Health represented by Ms. Denver Jill Caparida, RN, CSSDO Social Workers and Direct Service Providers, CSSDO Pre-Schoolers and Children’s Concerns Division headed by Ms. Grace S. Frias, Child and Youth Program In-Charge, Ms. Gina A. Molon, Mae D. Aquino, Head Secretariat of Davao City Council for the Welfare of Children, City Health Office – Population Division represented by Ms. Marjurie Abude, Barangay Councils, Child and Youth Leaders. Davao City is humbled but proud to be the host city to this First Teem Forum dubbed as YOLO (You Only Live Once) #EhKasiTeenager spearheaded by Philippine Pediatric Society – Davao Southern Mindanao Chapter in partnership with Davao City Council for the Welfare of Children and Department of Health XI.
DAVAO CITY was adjudged and given the accolade last September 29, 2016 at Malacañang Palace as the 2015 Most Child-Friendly City udner Highly Urbanized City Category. This is a clear manifestation that our current leadership under Mayor Sara Z. Duterte gives children at the forefront of all development undertakings. The city when it comes to emerging and current issues confronting our children and youth does not sleep not slumber but tried its level best to fulfill realize the fundamental rights of children to SURVIVAL, DEVELOPMENT, PROTECTION and PARTICIPATION.
The social problems confronting our children and youth in the city is very complex and diversified. We are constantly challenged to respond with urgency to this since the children cannot wait. They are our future leaders and we should always aspire with the help of the Divine Almighty to give them a HOPE and GOOD FUTURE.
Again, let us work and support each other in this noble endeavor to always make DAVAO CITY as Child-Friendly City nurturing, enabling and protective place to all our Dabawenyo Children.
